There appear to be several messages regarding William Bedwell Maxwell. Coincidence? My gt. grandfather too was born in West Indies (1803) and married Ann Tickner of Richmond, Surry (England) on the 22nd November 1838 in Alloa, Clackmannan, Scotland - Alloa, on the north bank of the River Forth. Approx. 7 miles east of Stirling and approx. 18 miles north of Edinburgh. They had several children, some were born in St Helen's (nr. Liverpool, England) and some in Scotland. Their daughter, Mary Ann (aka Marion) Maxwell married firstly, Johnstone Thomson and they had two sons, Johnstone and William. Johnstone snr. died and in 1871 Mary Ann married John Burns. They lived in Dunbarton, Scotland (west coast)and had three children one of whom was Eliza Burns, my grandmother. At the time of the 1871 English Census, William and Ann Maxwell were living in Walker (a suburb of Newcastle upon Tyne). At the time of the 1881 English Census, Eliza Burns, now aged 9, was living with her grandmother (Ann Maxwell) in Longbenton, England (another suberb of Newcastle)and she is listed as widowed. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Do you have any information for me? Particularly, William Bedwell Maxwell. Jen |
