Still searching for information on George W Maxwell born 1824 GA (Wilkes) who married Elizabeth Estes born 1836 NC. I found the following from the Early Settlers of Wilkes Co GA. Thomas Maxwell-dec'd Henry Hill admin. Returns for 1817 paid citation, etc, petition of Betsy Maxwell, widown, William, James, Margaret, Catherine, and Elizabeth sons and daughters to divide 425 acres on Long Creek July 1818. Also singed by Henry Hill, admin. of Wiley Maxwell, decd and Anderson Estes Reciept of Elizabeth Maxwell widow of Thomas Maxwell decd for her part of cash and land of the estate of Elizabeth, Margaret, James, William and Catherine Maxwelll sons and daughters of said decd Oct. 30 1819 all recieved over $500. The interesting part of the above is the Maxwell and Estes connection. Since George W Maxwell married Elizabeth Estes seems he would somehow fit into this family. They moved on to Meriwether Co. after marriage. I found the following in the Meriwether Vindicator (newspaper) Miss Harriett Maxwell died at the family homestead near Greenville June 30 1886 at 36 years of age she was born in Wilkes Co 1850 Vol 14, No 38 July 23 1886. Could this woman have been part of the same branch of Maxwell's of my ancestor George W since she was born in Wilkes Co and also moved on to Meriwether Co?
