http://www-history.mcs.st-and.ac.uk/~history/Biographies/Crofton.html mentions Crofton's in Ireland. There was a system for naming children in the old days which saw the first children named after maternal and paternal Grandparents. Children born after this seem to be given Family surnames or Aunt and Uncles names as second names. Just a thought |
