Title: | Captain(?) Maxwell?? |

Would it be too rude to suggest that perhaps "Captain" Maxwell might have been promoted from, say, Mr. Midshipman Maxwell, or Able Seaman Maxwell, by a subsequent generation? This phenomenon has sent me after a few red herrings (in search of the Schuyler ancestor--NOT, it turned out, the General!) of my own. However, your Hawaiian Maxwell connection leads me to ask about my great-great Aunt Lucy Maxwell (or, it may be, Kernan), who became a missionary and traveled to Hawaii, established a school for Hawaiian children, and, when her term of service was up, decided to stay for the rest of her life. I believe that she either never married, or became widowed early on. Would you know anything about her? |
