We have are in contact with three lines of Maxwells who are descendants of a William Bedwell Maxwell who was born in the West Indies but who married in Dumbarton Scotland and had children in various places in the British Isles. His father was Stewart Maxwell, a soldier, who had served in the 8th West Indian Regiment. We think that Stewart's father was a William Maxwell as Stewart called his first legitimate son William and his illegitimate son William Bedwell Maxwell. Bedwell Maxwells appear to have originated in Delaware. Would be interested in hearing from anyone with any information on these lines.
