Title: Roscommon Maxwells
Posted by: Alan Roughley
Date: 25 April 2009

Hello All
I have been researching my Maxwell antecedents who came from Roscommon - probably Aughrim parish near Elphin. They moved to Prescot, Lancashire about 1853. They were Catholic. John Maxwell (bc.1821) was my gt gt grandfather. They were linked to families named King, Moran and Oates by marriage in Roscommon. Maxwell is normally a Scottish name and common in Ulster, though the Catholic Maxwells of Roscommon may have had a Gaelic name 'anglicized' (as many names were).
