Col. Jefferson Davis Maxwell was born 5 June 1851. He died October 9th or 11th 1914, and is burried in the Old Silver Brook Cemetery in Anderson, S.Carolina. On October 19, 1875, he married Alice Von Borstell, who was born July, 1856, daughter of Frederick C. Von Borstell and Cassandra Hewitt. J.D. Maxwell went to Anderson from Pendleton, S.C. in 1865 to work for the B.F. Crayton company. Later he owned his own insurance company in Anderson. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and City Alerman. In 1886 he served on Governor Richardson's staff with the rank of Colonel. After his death, Mrs. Maxwell lived with their son Jeff, Jr., in Hollywood, California. J.D. and Alice had the following children: (1)Frederick von Borstell Maxwell, born 30 July 1876, died 11 Aug. 1930. (2)Jefferson Davis Maxwell, Jr., born 1878. (3)James T. Maxwell, born March 1881. Lived in Knoxville Tenn. and later in Newport, Tenn. (4)John Maxwell, born 13 Aug. 1884, died 18 Sept. 1953. (5)Alice Maxwell, born Jan. 1887.
