A John R. Maxwell built an estate of over 50 acres in Glen Cove Long Island NY. It was built in 1898 and was called "Maxwellton". It is diffucult to think that this is a coincidence. He built a home for his son Howard on the estate in 1905. A third home was added for a daughter (or Grandaughter) Louise Maxwell who married Howard Whitney. I own the only surviving buildings from the estate, a carraige house and the original caretakers home. Both were built in 1898. Jonn R. Maxwekll was a partner with the Pratts in railroads. He also owned the Portland Cement company and supplied all the cement for the Panama Canal. It's possible that John R. descened from the Ky. Maxwells. If you feel this is possible and would like more information contact me at Hawk418@optonline.net Frank D'Amico |
