Hi, I am fairly new at this type of thing so if I sound stupid, just ignore me. My grandfather, John "J" Maxwell immigrated to the US in 1871, leaving behind his childhood love, until he was able to send Grandmother "Ellen Brown" a ticket. At the same time my grandmother's sister "Anna (Brown) Robinson" also sent her a ticket. She sent her ticket back and came across on Grandfather John's. That was in 1872. They were married in Xenia, OH June 18, 1872 according to the marriage certificate I have, in my possession. As far as we have been able to find out, they settled in an area called Yellow Spring, OH which is not too far from Dayton, started a family of two (Anna J and Susan)in Ohio,sometime before July 16, 1875. In July Grandpa John bought 80 acres for $1800 in a place called Coldwater, IA. Coldwater later changed it's name to Dougherty and John ald Ellen continued to grow more family. They had a James, Jennie, a stillborn, Samuel (My father) and another John Arthur. James died from what they think was ruptured appendix when he was 17 years old. I can remember when I was in grade school, of getting an invitation to the Robinson family reunion in Steubenville, but Mom and Dad did not do any traveling except to relation in Iowa so we never did meet the Maxwell's or Robinson's in OH. After Dad died in 1954 I can remember Mom getting an inheritance check from the Robinson's in OH. I think it was for around $1500 and in those days that was a goodly amount of money. 3 or 4 years ago there were four cousins in different parts of the country, trying to find out more of the Maxwell history.
