Hello - fairly new to all this, and apologies if this has been answered somewhere else. I am a descendent of the Maxwells who emigrated to New Zealand on the Jura in 1858 from Glasgow - my GG grandfather, John Maxwell. I was wondering what the likelihood of changing the name from Maxwell to Mackison was (or similar). My Gx3 Grandfather seemed to be Maxwell/MacKison (James William Maxwell/MacKison 1818-1904) with HIS grandfather appearing to be only a MacKison (James MacKison 1752 - ?). The furtherest back is John MacKison 1690, which I have seen someone else here to with the exact same information. I would be grateful for any insight. If you are looking for the Kiwi Maxwells in Waikouaiti, my grandmother was a genealogist long before the internet, so am happy to share what I have as well. Thank you! :)
