Hello Ted, Georgia is my home. My whole family tree, 3 or 4 generations back were from this area. Some of their names include Jones/Maxwell---Skinner/Craft. This amateur geneology research has taught me that life was VERY hard for all Americans 3 or 4 generations back. Especially the men. On both sides of my family, we have obtained their military records, from the Civil War. Maxwell soldier died of typhoid in Poolesville, Maryland. Jones surrendered Appomattox, went home to his wife, but she was no longer his wife. He came to Macon, Georgia. He jumped off a train, walked into a Baptist church, and sat down beside a lady who became my g-grandmother. Have you checked rosters of the wars for your grandfather's father? The link below, has Civil war rosters. http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.cfm |
