I am researching Margaret E. Maxwell, supposedly born 1859 - 1860 in Fayette County, Ohio. She married William Henry Smith in 1884, again supposedly in Fayette County, Ohio. Supposedly she is the daughter of James Jarvis Maxwell and Elizabeth Jane Robinson. I've found James J, living with Samuel P.W. Maxwell on the 1850 and 1860 Census records in Tennessee. In 1870 I find James J and Elizabeth still living in DeKalb County, Tennessee with a daughter Margaret, but Margaret is listed as four years of age, which would make her year of birth around 1866, not 1859 - 1860. Now to further complicate matters I find J.J. and E.J. Maxwell living in Wilson County, Tennessee in 1880 and another James Maxwell living in Fayette County, Ohio,in 1880 with a daughter Margaret, age 19, which would be the proper age for the Margaret I am researching. I'm certain that the Margaret E. Maxwell I am researching is not the daughter of James Jarvis Maxwell, although it is shown on Ancestry.com that she is and that she married William Henry Smith in Fayette County, Ohio in 1884. Would you have any idea of the proper lineage of the Margaret Maxwell I am researching? Any ideas or clues would be greatly appreciated.
