There are indeed other children of John Goodman Maxwell, I am delighted to report that Steven and Patrick Thorp are decended from one of those other children. Well done Steven, excellent research.

Having made it that that bit more difficult for you by not mentioning the other children, I feel I aught to fully expand the list to give some details of the other children of John Goodman Maxwell by his marriage to Eliza Harriette Keyse. They are;

1. Harriette Eliza, born 1834, married the Rev. Matthew Lownes and the family ended up in Buenos Aires.
2. George Maxwell, born 1835, married Anne Picciola Gordon and they appear to have gone to Canada.
3. William Maxwell, born 1836, died 1868 unmarried at St Thomas in the West Indies.
4. Melville Maxwell, born 1837, died 1867 unmarried at Lakoja on the West coast of Africa.
5, Robert Edwards Maxwell, born 1839, drowned four day sail from Calcutta in 1857.
6. Mary, born 1841,  married Andrew Fernie and had lots of descendents.
7. Edward Cleaver Maxwell, born 1842, Army surgeon married in Malta Georgina Ann Johnson, one daughter Annie who married Mr Thorp
8. Marmaduke Maxwell, born 1843 died in 1931 at Cannon Beach, Oregon, USA having never married. Went to America in the late 1860's and spent his whole life labouring on farms and in the lumber industry.
9. Fanny Amelia, born 1846,  spent most of her adult life in care and died in 1886. Buried with her parents in Okehampton.
10. Joseph Prime Maxwell, born 1847, was an engineer. He went to New Zealand where he had a hugely successful life. Was Commissioner of NZ railways and owned some sort of financial house, Married Helen Hunter sister of Sir George Hunter. Never been able to determine if they had children. Died at Palmerston, North Island in 1933.
11. Emily, born 1849, married her younger sister Catherine's widowed husband, Edmund Burd and raised their three children but never had any of her own... Died in Bideford, Devon in 1919.
12. Catherine Anne, born 1853, married Edmund Pierce Burd in 1877 had two sons and a daughter, died in 1882 at Settle in Yorkshire.
13. Charles Kingsley Maxwell, born 1855, named after his godfather the author Charles Kingsley. Had a ceramic tile factory in Hipperholme in Yorkshire, Was married to a Sarah Amelia ? Had two sons, Charles Melville Maxwell, the younger was killed in an air raid in the Daily Sketch office in Gray's Inn Road in London in 1940 (he was a reporter) An incredibly elusive wee family, I have never tracked any of them down. The eldest son was named John Goodman Maxwell like his grandfather..
