More research has borne fruit in this family pedigree. The youngest son of John Goodman Maxwell, Charles Kingsley Maxwell seems to have gone missing over the side of a steamer in 1900. I could not say where this happened but he left two sons The eldest named after his grandfather John Goodman Maxwell (III) and Charles Melville Maxwell.

Of John Goodman Maxwell (III). Born in 1881 at Weare Gifford in Devon, he married Mary Jane Cox at King’s Norton, Birmingham in 1905 and reportedly had a large family. He was living at “Stanwix” a house in Caversham, Berkshire in 1930 and died there in 1951. I have no idea how many children he had or where any of them might be

Charles Melville Maxwell was born in 1882 at Peters Marland in Devon. He married Lilian Maud Anderson in Fulham London in 1914. They had an only child, Ronald Marmaduke Maxwell. Charles was a journalist and killed in the Daily Sketch Offices in Grey’s Inn Road, London during the London blitz of 1940.

Of his son Ronald Marmaduke Maxwell appears to have married at Croydon in the immediate aftermath of the second world war (1945) to Irene F. P. Willis. They had a son Christopher R. Maxwell born in 1946 and a second son Andrew R. Maxwell born in 1950. I have so far not been able to trace this family in the United Kingdom after this date which begs the question, did they go abroad?

The name John Goodman Maxwell occurs three times in this pedigree. John Goodman Maxwell (I) was the eldest son of George Maxwell of Fletton in Huntingdonshire he was born in 1777 and married Mary Peacock 18th October 1800. He was killed in a fall from his horse in the hunting field less than a year later on 4th September 1801. He left a heavily pregnant wife, Mary, who was on 2nd December 1801 delivered of his posthumous son who was named after him, John Goodman Maxwell (II).
